Spring Festival

Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important traditional festival in China. It is celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar, usually falling between late January and mid-February. As a Chinese student studying abroad, I miss my family and hometown during this festive season.

Family Reunion

During Spring Festival, Chinese people travel long distances to reunite with their families. It is a time for family members to catch up, share stories, and enjoy traditional foods. I miss the delicious dumplings made by my mom and the lively atmosphere in my hometown.

Red Decorations

Red is the color of Spring Festival. It symbolizes good luck and happiness. Red decorations can be seen everywhere during this time, such as red lanterns, couplets, and paper cuttings. I used to help my grandparents decorate their house with these traditional Chinese decorations.

Fireworks

Fireworks are an essential part of Spring Festival. It is believed that fireworks can scare away evil spirits and bring good luck. In my hometown, people set off fireworks throughout the night, creating a beautiful and festive atmosphere. However, due to safety concerns, fireworks are often banned in many cities.

Spring Festival Gala

The Spring Festival Gala is a TV show broadcasted on Chinese New Year's Eve. It features various performances, such as traditional Chinese dance, singing, and comedy sketches. It is a tradition for Chinese families to watch the gala together while enjoying a big feast.

In conclusion, Spring Festival is a time for family reunion, delicious food, and traditional Chinese culture. Although I cannot celebrate it with my family this year, I still feel the warmth and joy of this festive season.
